Welcome to the MIMU Photo Archive.
The Myanmar Information Management Unit (MIMU) is a service of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator to support the information management needs and decision-making of humanitarian, development and peace-focused actors across Myanmar.
The MIMU Photo Archive provides a platform to share information on humanitarian, development and peace-focused work being carried out in Myanmar. It is designed for use by civil society agencies and cooperation partners.
Users of the MIMU Photo Archive include Registered Users (able to contribute and download images) and Unregistered Users (able to view but not download or use the images contained).
By accessing this Site, all Users commit to:
MIMU refers to the Myanmar Information Management Unit.
The Site refers to the MIMU Photo Archive.
A User refers to any person accessing the MIMU Photo Archive, whether as a Registered or Unregistered User. By accessing this Site, all Users accept these Terms and Conditions of Use in their entirety and without reservation.
An Unregistered User is any User browsing or accessing the website, without an account, and therefore unable to upload and download content on the MIMU Photo Archive. In accessing this Site, all Users including Unregistered Users accept these Terms and Conditions of Use in their entirety and without reservation.
A Registered User is a User with a username and password registered to upload and download images from the MIMU Photo Archive. Registered Users are staff of MIMU partner agencies working in humanitarian, development and peace-focused activities in Myanmar. In accessing this Site, all Users including Registered Users accept these Terms and Conditions of Use in their entirety and without reservation.
Registered User Accounts are the accounts given to a Registered User.
Materials refer to all information and content provided on the MIMU Photo Archive, including photos and documents.
Photos refer to photographic images related to humanitarian, development and peace-focused activities in Myanmar which are submitted to the MIMU Photo Archive by Registered Users.
Subjects refer to the persons included in these Photos.
Attribution refers to the information provided by Registered Users on any particular Photo which must be included when this Photo is downloaded and used for any purpose.
Informed Consent Policy for Photo Subjects refers to the requirement that all possibly identifiable photo subjects must give permission for their photo to be used. For children under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must give permission. The policy also includes required criteria for protecting the privacy and dignity of subjects. Registered Users are responsible to ensure appropriate consent has been obtained for any photo prior to upload.
Country and area nomenclature: The designations employed and the presentation of material in this Site do not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of MIMU or the United Nations concerning the legal status of any country, territory, city or area or of its authorities, or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries. Transliteration of place names has been provided by MIMU. For more information, see the MIMU Place Codes.
Materials provided on this Site are provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including, without limitation, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. MIMU and the United Nations do not make any warranties or representations as to the accuracy or completeness of any such Materials. The User specifically acknowledges and agrees that MIMU and the United Nations are not liable for any conduct of any User of this Site and are not responsible for any uses that may be made of the Materials contained in the MIMU Photo Archive.
Neither MIMU nor the United Nations nor its affiliates, nor any of their respective agents, employees, information providers or content providers, shall be liable to any User or anyone else for any inaccuracy, error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, alteration of or use of any content herein, or for its timeliness or completeness, nor shall they be liable for any failure of performance, computer virus or communication line failure, regardless of cause, or for any damages resulting therefrom. The use of this Site is at the sole risk of the Users. Under no circumstances, including but not limited to negligence, shall MIMU, the United Nations or its affiliates be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, even if MIMU or the United Nations has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
As a condition of use of this Site, all Users, including Registered Users and Unregistered Users, agree to indemnify MIMU and the United Nations and its affiliates from and against any and all actions, claims, losses, damages, liabilities and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of the use of this Site, including, without limitation, any claims alleging facts that if true would constitute a breach by the User of these Terms and Conditions of Use.
MIMU periodically adds, changes, improves or updates the Materials on this Site without notice. Under no circumstances shall MIMU or the United Nations be liable for any loss, damage, liability or expense incurred or suffered that is claimed to have resulted from the use of this Site, including, without limitation, any fault, error, omission, interruption or delay with respect thereto.

The information and images in the MIMU Photo Archive are provided by the various Registered Users and can in no way be taken to reflect the official opinion of MIMU, the United Nations or its Member States. The boundaries and names shown, and the designations used on any materials in the MIMU Photo Archive and in the MIMU website, do not imply official endorsement or acceptance by the United Nations.
No waiver by MIMU of any provision of these Terms and Conditions of Use shall be binding except as set forth in writing and signed by its duly authorized representative.
Nothing herein shall constitute or be considered to be a limitation upon or a waiver of the privileges and immunities of the United Nations, which are specifically reserved.
MIMU maintains and administers the MIMU Photo Archive for informative purposes related to humanitarian, development and peace-focused activities only.
MIMU grants permission for Users to utilize the information provided on this Site subject to these Terms and Conditions of Use, without any right to resell or redistribute them or to compile or create derivative works therefrom.
All Materials shared through the MIMU Photo Archive – including those provided by MIMU and other development, humanitarian and peace-focused actors – are available free of charge for non-commercial use related to support humanitarian, development and peace-focused activities.
Photos uploaded to the MIMU Photo Archive must comply in full with all requirements established in these Terms and Conditions of Use and must adhere to the Informed Consent Policy for Photo Subjects which applies to photos of adults and children under 18 years of age. Registered Users are fully responsible for the posted content, Photos and Attribution, and MIMU cannot be held responsible for this information.
Uploaded Photos or content that do not meet the MIMU Photo Archive standards or are not relevant to the purpose of the MIMU Photo Archive will be removed without notice or information to the Registered User.
Users found to be misusing the Site (not using it for the intended purpose or not respecting the Terms and Conditions of Use of the Site), will be suspended from its use without notice or information.
Certain information about the persons accessing this Site, such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, navigation through the Site, the software used and the time spent, along with other similar information, will be stored on the MIMU servers. This information will not specifically identify the User and will be used internally only for monitoring purposes. User information gathered will not be shared with third parties and is used solely by MIMU to increase the relevance and quality of the User experience of the MIMU Photo Archive.
Certain functions of this Site require User registration. Personal details obtained in this registration process are used only for this designated purpose by MIMU and are not published, licensed or disclosed to third parties. MIMU, however, assumes no responsibility for the security of this information.
Any person using the site and its Materials, including Unregistered and Registered Users, agrees that they shall:
The download and use of Photos from the MIMU Photo Archive will be limited to Registered Users, namely Users accredited by MIMU to contribute and download Materials to this Site.
All Photos must be relevant to the humanitarian and/or development and/or peace-focused activities or projects being carried out by the contributing organisation.
Registered Users are responsible to respect the copyright to the Photos.
Photos within the Photo Archive will remain the property of the Registered User and can be removed from the MIMU Photo Archive by MIMU or by the Registered User at any time: Note that MIMU cannot prevent a Photo’s use or circulation by other Registered Users who may have already downloaded the Photo prior to its removal.
All Subjects, whether they are children or adults, have a right to privacy. All Registered Users are solely responsible for obtaining consent from Subjects to have their Photos used. No Subject’s names will be used in the Photos and digital location metadata will be stripped automatically from the original uploaded files.
MIMU will monitor and review Photos regularly and reserves the right to reject and remove any Photo at any time if it fails to meet the criteria and/or standards for inclusion in the MIMU Photo Archive. These standards are in place to protect the Subjects of the Photos and the integrity of the Site as a broadly used resource supporting the work of humanitarian, development and peace-focused actors in Myanmar.
The Informed Consent Policy for Photo Subjects applies to all subjects (people) who may be identifiable in photos – hence it includes adults and children under 18 years of age. The policy requires agencies to ensure that permission has been obtained from the adult subject of a photo, or the parents or guardians if the subject is a child, to use their photo for agency purposes. This is to ensure photos of adults and children are not disseminated without the subject’s knowledge so as to respect their right to privacy.
All photos uploaded by Registered Users must meet the following criteria:
Uploaded photos should maintain the integrity of the content and context of each Photo – In line with the criteria for good photojournalism, uploaded photos must not be manipulated, enhanced, edited or altered in any way that can mislead viewers or misrepresent subjects.
Note that Photos uploaded on the Site reflect your organisation’s work and should not be blurred, grainy or otherwise ‘low quality’ images that are not suitable for professional use.
Registered Users will provide the following information for each Photo contributed to this Site – note that some of this information will be included by Users in their Attribution of downloaded Photos:

All Users of this Site, including Registered Users and Unregistered Users, agree to:
Photos downloaded from the MIMU Photo Archive must be used in context to the subject matter and reflect the work of the Registered User or organisation.
Downloaded Photos should not be changed, altered, or further edited or Photoshopped in any way except for simple colour or exposure corrections to meet the requirements of the delivery method e.g. web, print or broadcast. Registered Users wishing to make any changes, edits or cropping of provided Photos must seek direct permission to do so from the contributing organisation.
The use of Photos must reflect the positive work being done by the contributing groups and the Subject. Photos must portray the Subjects in a way that promote both the dignity and the rights of the population and the photo subjects, and not as victims or passive aid recipients and any use of the Photos must reflect this same policy for the end User.
Users of the MIMU Photo Archive will ensure that Registered Users and sources are duly acknowledged for any Photos used from this Site, whether used in print, electronic or online format. Any Materials used will be credited in a readily visible manner, as follows:

All Photos remain the intellectual property of the contributing organisation and photographer. In using this Site, Registered Users commit to ensuring visible, correct and full Attribution when used for any online or printed publication or other material in the format shown on the Photo download page. The Photo title and description must also be accurately reflected in the final publication.
The MIMU Photo Archive cannot be embedded or visualised in other online platforms without prior written permission from the MIMU Manager. Such permissions, where granted, shall be on a one-time non-exclusive basis. No written permission for use of MIMU datasets, information, materials or products, including the MIMU Photo Archive, shall be construed to be an admission of liability for its content.
Users who maintain an external website may include hyperlinks to https://photo.themimu.info/ or any of its subsidiary pages on that external site without having to ask prior permission provided that these:
MIMU cannot assure the reliability or validity of links provided by Registered Users, and information on pages of this Site as well as URLs may change without notice.
